An oversized barn door creates a strong impact in the room, meaning any kitchen design had to complement and hold its own against this striking feature.· From a functional perspective, the space needed to be hard wearing, innovative and able to provide all the right hallmarks for a family who love to entertain. Hanging out in style – for this kitchen by Cube Dentro a cantilevered limestone benchtop sitting on the matt black bench creates a dramatic feature for prepping, serving and socialising. · The homeowners penchant for clean vertical lines on the exterior of the home meant the kitchen needed to appreciate this detailing and mirror the style accordingly.Overcoming challenges:· The kitchen sits in an elongated room that opens up to an extensive deck with views of the lake. The challenge was to create a large, highly functional kitchen with multiple working zones that were not obvious upon first sight - creating an element of surprise and delight. Vertical timber panelling to the island is matched with stained textured veneer to the back wall and scullery for this arresting kitchen design. · By drawing on design inspiration from Milan, expansive pocket doors and fully integrated appliances form the main elevation. When opened, the inner workings of the space are revealed – when closed, the design echoes the exterior of the house - strong, clean vertical lines and colour cues taken from a country setting.· Directly adjacent sits a scullery with convenient access that is not disruptive to the main workflow of the kitchen – ideal for our busy professional couple. Room at the back – the dramatic, clean-lined kitchen is backed by a crisp, modern scullery in this design by Leonie Metge of Cube Dentro. · Other design considerations to blend cohesively with the home included hand-crafted vertical timber panelling to the island, stained textured veneer to the back wall and scullery, flat plate stainless (a nod to the barn door) and a cantilevered limestone benchtop sitting on a matt black bench.· Using premium materials and a restricted colour palette, the result is a generous kitchen that connects with the overall aesthetic of the home and provides its homeowners with an indulgent yet highly practical work space.
