Going to the movies is always a multi-sensory experience one that usually begins with the smell of popcorn and excitement as the lights dim.

However, at the recently refurbished Village Rialto Cinemas in Newmarket, the senses are alerted as soon as you walk through the door. Amstar Interiors, who was tasked with the fit-out, wanted to ensure that customers felt the entire outing was an experience from start to finish.

Project manager Graham Brown says the intention was to create a warm and inviting environment in which people would immediately feel comfortable.

Wood panelling and soft seating throughout are used to create familiar home-like surroundings, encouraging customers to linger, says Brown.

"The success of this project has allowed us to develop ongoing relationships with the client and architects," he says.

The project involved the refurbishment of the theatres as well as the entrance and concession areas, a bar and cafeteria.
