Design collaboration

Cookware has to be functional, but is appreciated more when it also enhances the overall look of your kitchen.

In recognition of this, Smeg employs a team of architects, industrial designers, artisans and engineers to ensure its cookware is aesthetically pleasing as well as practical and durable.

Among some of the world famous architects who design for Smeg are Guido Canali and Mario Bellini.

Canali's treatment of the straight line perfectly rolled edges and the exact meeting of metal and glass and attention to detail in control knobs, clocks and accessories has been visible in Smeg appliances for the past two decades.

More recently, Bellini has introduced a softer line with his bow-fronted ovens, single step moulded cooktops and distinctive front mount control knobs.

Smeg also offers a niche range of colonial detailed appliances that include oval oven windows and gold detailing on white, Panna or Anthracite backgrounds.

The Quatro Centro or 400 series ovens offer a minimalist, clean design suited to most kitchen layouts.

Smeg also has a partnership with the design workshop of architect Renzo Piano, the result of which is a range of appliances combining technology with design flair. All Piano Series appliances are constructed of stainless steel.

Kitchen designer Suzi Matz chose appliances from the Piano Series to complement the high-end finishes in the kitchen featured on these pages.

Mounted beneath the off-white Corian benchtop on the kitchen's rear wall are side-by-side 60cm multifunction Smeg Piano Series ovens.

These allow for the simultaneous cooking of multiple courses while entertaining.

The F170 has 10 cooking functions, while the F166 offers six. Each feature removable triple-glazed doors, a heat-reflective inner layer and catalytic liners.

Above the ovens is a 100cm-wide, six-burner gas cooktop. Pressed from a single, seamless sheet of polished stainless steel, the hob is easy to clean and features a range of different sized burners.
