Curved glass adds interesting design elements
Internal and exterior windows and balustrades look good in curved glass from Glasshape
The forms and materials of the Performing Arts Centre at St Cuthbert's College were inspired and influenced in part by the special nature of the site, which is fringed with large, mature trees.
Architectural practice Architectus designed the curved forms of the building including curved glass windows to create a more organic interface with the trees surrounding it.
To execute this design, specialist architectural glass manufacturer Glasshape worked closely with the architect to manufacture and supply curved toughened grade A safety glass for the exterior windows. It also made and supplied 15mm-thick curved glass balustrades for staircases in the building's atrium.
As the leading specialist glass manufacturer in New Zealand, Glasshape offers a full turnkey service, making it easy to incorporate toughened curved glass into any commercial or residential project. The service begins with an on-site digital measure to ensure the glass can be manufactured to a high degree of accuracy. From here CAD concepts are created, and the curved glass is produced and can be supplied anywhere in the world.
Glasshape manufactures, supplies and installs a variety of other specialist glass products such as StormShield, which is storm and cyclone resistant, ArmourShield, a bullet- and intruder-resistant product, and DuraShield SuperYacht glass for the international super yacht market.
