AS THE SOLE electrical contractor working on one of the largest electrical contracts of the past 30 years, you call on every last bit of experience garnered from more than 26 years of operation.

For Logan City Electrical specialists in fitting out large industrial, commercial, manufacturing and institutional facilities the Millennium Arts Project was one of the most complex contracts undertaken, says general manager Damian Druery.

"A large portion of the contract was the upgrade of the existing system for the entire Queensland Cultural Centre precinct at South Bank, including the replacement and upgrade of three high-voltage generators and control network.

"This was the most challenging aspect of the project, as the prime and standby power had to be maintained to the precinct for the duration of the work."

Four temporary generators were placed around the site to ensure that during the whole process the site was never without a prime or back-up power source.

Logan City Electrical's extensive contract called for the incorporation of the high voltage infrastructure transporting high-voltage power from the supplier around the site and converting it into standard 240V power as well as the high-voltage stand-by generators. The company was also required to install switchboards, outlets, the communication and security systems, and the sub-main cabling reticulation, linking the main switchboard with secondary switchboards around the site. Then there was the site's general-purpose, special, and feature lighting.

"The Millennium Arts Project was one of the largest electrical contracts ever undertaken by a single electrical contractor in Queensland," says Druery.

Logan City Electrical was onsite for two years, and at its peak had 120 people working on the contract.
