SECURITY IS at the forefront of any commercial development not least when there are hundreds of millions of dollars worth of artworks and historical books in need of protection.

The Millennium Arts Project represents a $300 million dollar investment on the part of the Queensland government. As such they needed to turn to suppliers with proven expertise in the delivery of complex building automation and security solutions, says Honeywell Pacific sales leader Peter Taylor.

"Honeywell has been associated with the Queensland Cultural Centre for more than 20 years, and was chosen to upgrade and expand its existing building automation and security systems to meet the stringent requirements of the new State Library and Gallery of Modern Art."

In order for the gallery to receive a AAA rating necessary for the gallery to display the quality of artwork planned for the site extremely tight controls over temperature, humidity and air quality needed to be reached. Honeywell also needed to provide a security solution capable of protecting priceless artworks and historical documents.

"The project demanded an integrated solution facilitating the central management of the security systems and critical climate control. The answer was Honeywell Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI), which manages the security, CCTV, access control, fire systems, heating, ventilation and air conditioning," says Taylor.

Along with the EBI system, the surveillance for the new buildings is delivered using the latest digital technology Honeywell Digital Video Manager.

"While security and climate control are paramount, aesthetics are important, which is why all sensors, controllers, and cameras were chosen to meet the technical requirements of the project and to maintain the aesthetic integrity of the facility," says Taylor.
