For the consumer, one of the big advantages of advances in technology is the speed at which everyday products improve, offering increasing opportunities for design creativity.

Australian-owned and family-run company Nikpol imports a range of kitchen products, including Grass and Harn drawer systems, Renolit vinyl surfaces and Bonne appliances. Also part of Nikpol's portfolio are products from Egger, a wood-based panel producer based in Austria. Its decorative products are designed for use as worktops and vertical surfaces in the kitchen, as well as for furniture making and interior fittings.

Egger's newest wood-based panel product, Eurolight, comes in 50mm and 100mm thicknesses, making it suitable for kitchen benchtops. Even at 100mm thick, Eurolight's lightweight construction makes it easy to handle, transport and install.

Nikpol says the rigid honeycomb core and sandwich construction of the Eurolight board ensures its stability and quality are not compromised. This construction offers designers creative freedom with shape, edge detailing and profile choices. Eurolight can also be used for splashbacks and upstands in the kitchen. Available in many colours, decorative finishes and matching edges, it can be transformed into sophisticated-looking, quality worktops and furnishings. In addition, Eurolight resists abrasion, impacts and scratching.

Another laminate range from Egger is Zoom, available in a variety of plain colours, woodgrains and imaginative interpretations of natural and industrial materials, such as leather-look, stone effects and concrete. All these decorative effects are matched to appropriate surface textures to add life and enhance the overall tactile experience.

Nikpol is also introducing new natural-look decor panels, a key theme for the future. Many are influenced by the colour grey, and are designed to co-ordinate effectively with each other.

Because Egger's Eurolight is constructed from recycled cardboard, it has the additional advantage of being an environmentally friendly choice for the home.
