Creative Contour
Curved glass has a multitude of commercial and residential applications that can enhance a structure by creating rounded, flowing elements in the facade
Rounded shapes can create architectural details that set a building apart. Distinctive designs can be achieved by using curved glass.
Enclosing spa pools in a column created a striking feature for this Queenstown apartment building. The toughened glass balustrade for the rooftop garden flows around the contours of the top of the tower to neatly finish the detail.
By using curved glass, those inside the apartments can enjoy uninterrupted views of the lake and mountains from their spa pools. Because of its structural strength, the glass is free of supports that would otherwise break up the vista. Minimal framework means the glass is easy to install and maintain.
Leading glass processor Glasshape specialises in the shaping and curving of glass for both residential and commercial projects. Glasshape can bend and toughen glass up to 3900mm in height and 2440mm in width with a radius as tight as 450mm. Glass can be laminated for extra security or to reduce noise.
TemperShield curved, toughened glass is Glasshape's main product. Also in the range are cyclone-resistant StormShield, acoustic-rated WhisperShield and intruder-resistant GuardShield. These products are now available in New Zealand, reducing lead times and cutting import costs.
