To be truly successful today, a business needs to listen to its market. And a company involved in the design and manufacture of building products is no exception, especially when it has to meet the needs of an increasingly discerning public.

Boral is a long-established company that recognises the need to be market driven. The organisation, which has annual sales around $4 billion and employs more than 13,000 people, undertakes extensive research to provide the right products for homeowners and the building trade.

As a result, Boral's product range not only reflects current building preferences, but it also reinforces design trends, says national general manager sales and marketing Glenn Simpkin.

"The new CinemaZone product by Boral Plasterboard is a good example," he says. "This acoustic wall lining is designed to provide an environment that enables you to get the best out of your new surround-sound TV system or stereo."

Simpkin says the company's focus is on the provision of innovative solutions within an increasingly complex building environment.

"We are constantly developing products and systems to meet new building codes and environmental regulations," he says. "Using the computer-based Boral Vision system is one way technology helps the company achieve its goals."

Although widely known as a manufacturer of products for large infrastructures, Boral has substantially increased its product range to include a number of consumer-focused products. These include large-format concrete pavers and retaining wall systems to enhance outdoor living areas.

The company also manufactures Boralstone polished concrete, which comes in a wide range of coloured, aggregate finishes.

"Boral's new smooth-faced clay bricks are another example of the company responding to consumer needs," says Simpkin. "These bricks have the fashionable, clean lines homeowners are looking for, along with low-maintenance lifestyle benefits."

Boral has also introduced a new product to the market. Nuvo® natural clay bricks are available in nine colours and come with matching mortar for a smooth, seamless finish, which is in keeping with contemporary architectural trends.
