Creating a healthy environment was a prime driver in the design of these bathrooms

Health provisions addressing a family member's cystic fibrosis are built into the very fabric of these wood and large-format porcelain sheet bathrooms, designed by Matisse.

From the designer:

The design of the three bathrooms for this Matarangi beach house was vitally important as the homeowner's daughter has cystic fibrosis and needs to be kept away from mould and stagnant water.

Every design detail in the bathrooms had to be rigorously thought through with this in mind.

Plus, with clever drainage systems in place the overall look was to be simplistic but sleek.

Neolith huge floor-to-ceiling 6mm thick porcelain sheets in Phedra colour with satin finish – manufactured by SCE Stone – were chosen to cover the walls, floor and ceiling.

This choice was to minimise as many grout lines as possible to enable the elimination of mould in the bathrooms.

And for the same reason 12mm porcelain was used to cover the vanity tops.

The owner has an Arclinea kitchen so the American Black Walnut wall vanities are Arclinea, too ,and in the same Convivium cabinetry style as the kitchen.

The real-wood veneer vanities also provide an ideal contrast to the porcelain finishes.

The white ceramic sinks, bath and soft-close toilet were chosen from the Flaminia range, due to their oval shape and thin edges that would avoid stagnant water sitting on the surface of the bathroomware.

Hansgrohe provided the chrome sink mixers and the Metris range floor mounted bath mixer, along with the Raindance collection for the shower heads.

Gateway glass from Themes provided The large wall-mounted mirrors and aluminium-framed, floor-to-ceiling glass for the showers.

The bathroom is accessorised with ladder-style stainless steel, mirror-finish heated towel rails from DC Short.
