Concepts by Gavin Hepper wins the 2026 TIDA Australia Powder Room of the Year
Moody re-imagined space – congratulations to Gavin Hepper of Gavin Hepper of Concepts, winner of the 2026 TIDA Australia Powder Room of the Year
Initially planned as a standalone guest powder room, this space was re-imagined to serve a broader purpose – functioning as a full bathroom for the guest bedroom as well as the adjacent outdoor and pool areas.
To achieve this multi-functional layout, the designer expanded the room's footprint by reclaiming an under-utilised area beneath the stairs, successfully carving out enough space to include a full shower.
The interior is defined by a moody atmosphere, established by the rich colour and distinct texture of the Japanese glazed tiles that wrap the walls.
The slim, vertical format of the tiling draws the eye upward, creating a strong architectural rhythm that intersects cleanly with the angles of the ceiling.
Bronze tapware, integrated lighting and a sculptural basin introduce warmth and refinement to the room, balancing the depth of the dark tile with subtle moments of softness and glow.
For the TIDA judges, the resulting design demonstrates how even a compact floor plan can be executed with distinct character, depth and attention to detail.
