Bringing together the individual construction elements of a project the size of The Warehouse Extra requires no small measure of experience.

With 96 years of commercial building to its credit, Naylor Love was employed because of the company's intimate knowledge of The Warehouse buildings, says Auckland manager Phil Brosnan. The brief included designing and building the new store to exacting specifications while maintaining flexibility throughout.

"Halfway through pouring the floor and with the cladding 80% completed, the concept was adapted to incorporate an extensive in-store grocery line. From this point onward the design evolved in a laboratory-style process and, together with the client, tenant and designers, Naylor Love took the project to completion."

With a desire to become measurably the best builders in the country, Naylor Love was the country's first main contractor to begin measuring itself against national benchmarking key performance indicators.

"The essence of the programme is to measure our performance in the areas of time, cost, defects, safety, product and service," explains Brosnan. "Once we identify any areas that challenge our performance, we are able to incorporate improvement measures."
