The new University of Auckland Halls of Residence is comprised largely of modular pods, built off-site. Stanley Construction was responsible for their specialist design, their fabrication, and also had the role of installation contractor under Hawkins Construction. The 15-storey, two-tower building consists of 468 individual prefabricated modular units, says director Gary Caulfield."These comprise a mix of single rooms, double pods with accessible bathrooms and study pods. Each unit was fully fitted out with all finishes, and manufacturing averaged 40 completed pods per week between Stanley's two factories in Matamata. The modules were then individually shrink-wrapped, stored until required, and finally trucked up to Auckland for installation," says Caulfield. View of wooden desk with two yellow stools. "With the core structure built, the modules were methodically and speedily craned into place. An average of six were installed per day, with a maximum of a staggering 16 in one day all making the building process much quicker than a conventional build."Laminated veneer lumber (LVL) was used for framing, due to its dimensional accuracy, while Secura¢ flooring was chosen for its strength and light-weight properties.Stanley Construction is a New Zealand construction company with a reputation for innovative thinking and award-winning results.
