CHARTER FOR CHANGE
SHOWING THE WAY
AS THE LAST subcontractors on site, Sign of the Times designed, manufactured and installed the signage on site, completing its task only hours before the official opening.
Largest of the centre's 160-plus signs are the Westfield illuminated roundels on the exterior, positioned according to Westfield's corporate identity guidelines. The five largest are 4.5m x 2.2m, and constructed from large aluminium sign cases with a flexible vinyl face, with internal fluorescent tube illumination. Another three slightly smaller roundels are moulded out of acrylic.
"Interior signage in the centre covers a wide range of materials and manufacturing processes," says Sign of the Times' Ross Rooney. "The use of acrylic, vinyl, copper and aluminium in 3D and 2D applications has resulted in a stunning wayfinding package."
Signage for the customer services desk follows a new Westfield design, to complement the new-look customer services desk. The company also installed temporary signage to direct shoppers away from the live construction areas.
Installing the signage needed fine tuning as the project developed and some quick thinking.
"We were just about to install a large exterior sign according to the plans, there was steelwork in place to support it, but it was not as specified," says Rooney. "With only a few hours to spare, we re-evaluated the design to meet the site conditions, so that the sign could be installed safely."
