The site is right, the views are dramatic, but if you are considering your holiday home as a permanent address, it will pay to involve an award-winning design-and-build company. An astute firm will optimise existing key strengths and then bring in all the features required to make your home a refined place to live.

Widely respected for its new high-end, lifestyle residences, Graeme Alexander Homes also unlocks the potential in existing houses, says owner Graeme Alexander.

"For this project, the owners wanted their 30-year-old weekender transformed into their primary residence. When they approached us, the pair asked for plenty of space for their grown-up family on the weekends and also all creature comforts something the holiday house lacked."

Site restrictions meant the external shape had to be retained but the floor plan was totally reworked over three levels creating a modern layout that optimises the elevated views. Despite limited space, a new garage was achieved by pushing into the sandy soil to the rear of the block. This also created a convenient access to the lower-level living spaces.

The new first floor has an extended family space, two bedrooms, a bathroom, rumpus and large laundry. An entry deck and studio provides privacy to the main deck while the repositioned internal stair offers an easy transition from the entry to the now expansive upper level spaces.

The remodelled living and dining areas and a large kitchen are all on the upper level. There is also a reading room, which brings privacy to the expansive external deck. The master bedroom is at the back but it too enjoys the views. It includes an ensuite, walk-in wardrobe, powder room and guest bedroom.

"Our makeovers not only maximise living potential, they will also enhance the value of your property," says Alexander.
