Celtic Flavour

Sipping a pint of Guinness seems the natural thing to do in an Irish pub and it's even more appropriate when the surroundings are just as authentic as the drink.

When The Bog Irish bar in Manukau City was fitted out, the owners chose to reinforce its Celtic flavour with a themed decor, which extends to the facade and beer garden. Christchurch concept designers, The Design Team, chose to clad the walls in both these areas in Grey Mountain Stone MS60 from Stutex Stone's Cerastone range. Similar Cerastone also features in The Bog pubs in Auckland and Christchurch.

Stutex Stone director Lorraine Goudie says this type of stone is very much a feature of traditional Irish architecture. But for the local pubs downunder, it was more cost effective and efficient to use manufactured stone cladding to reproduce the look of natural stone.

"As a lightweight building medium, Cerastone allows freedom in architectural styling and provides a diverse range of decorating and finishing options," Goudie says. "The Bog's beer garden, for example, features deeply recessed ledges and corner stones. The outdoor fireplace is perceived to have a depth normally only achieved with the use of natural stone, which is one of the real advantages of Stutex Stone products. The lightweight nature of the cladding also enables fast and easy installation by the stone contractor."

More than 20 textured designs are available from Stutex Stone. These range from authentic schist looks to river rocks, mountain and drift stones. Cerastone is covered by a 30-year warranty.
