To facilitate the multi-functional nature of the complex, Hufcor designed, fabricated and installed movable walls for the arena, exhibition hall, meeting and function rooms. There are 35, 9m-high panels making up the exhibition hall wall, and 139 4m-high panels in meeting rooms. However, the most impressive display of operable walls is in the arena, where there are 96, 14m-high panels. These are the biggest operable wall panels in Australia, and second biggest in the world, behind the Korean Trade Centre. Arena seating area with pink terraced seating, and movable wall made of dark panels. These panels, weighing 1 tonne each, were manufactured by Hufcor's US-based operation, shipped to Australia in sections, and put together on site. They sit on Hufcor's specifically designed tracking system, making them very easy to move, says project manager Dennis Searle. When not in use they slide through a slot in the seating, into a remote stack outside the arena."When utilised, they provide flexible use of space and acoustical separation for the running of different functions and meetings," he says.
