Facebook Tweet Help Stories Kitchen How this dramatic black kitchen was designed as three layers Share Tweet Help Island, rear cabinetry, scullery – three layers, all connected, all eye-catching. This kitchen is tiered for function but also design. Designed by Cube DentroFrom the designers:Every inch of this contemporary kitchen for a family of three has lived up to the exacting standards of the owners.Their brief was two fold; 1) to explore bold individualism and be decadent on statement features, and 2) to not compromise on pragmatism – creating an uncomplicated work flow with high tech inclusions. A final stipulation was that any white-on-white design would be shunned from the outset. When not in use, the kitchen is an artistic talking point – striking and dramatic, yet restful too. By contrast, when in use, everything is functional, well-considered and a delight to entertain within.Individualism has been achieved through the exciting, angled black and brass cabinetry. Patience and precision was called for when inserting 6mm brass strips, rebated between MDF angled panels. Each strip was laminated by hand, one at a time. Creating a little relief from the smooth, sleek cabinetry, the rangehood cover is in rough-sawn tongue & groove panels. This is not only a fantastic juxtaposition to the main design, it also provides a nod to the home’s rural setting. Statement features were carefully incorporated into the space. The challenge was not to compete with the angled benchtop and confuse the eye with too many hero pieces. Leonie Hamill – director/certified kitchen designer – Cube Dentro The solution saw beautiful metallic tiles in the scullery blending perfectly with the black and brass throughout. The kitchen’s feature pendant lighting can be viewed from the living area and takes the ambience up a notch when entertaining. The scullery completes the picture of great work flow, while integrating the appliances keeps things streamlined in a design sense. The owners wanted us to create something bespoke and magical, and were delighted with the result.
