It might seem obvious, but large floorplates will require a great deal of paving. For Aotea Paving, this project involved the installation of thousands of metres of paving. The company placed in situ paving in various aggregate mixes, with a honed finish. It also placed honed precast paving on mortar or epoxy direct fix bedding, and basalt feature paving bands, which were all laid within a grid of ACO drain channels. Several hundred precast stair-tread riser units with parapet cappings were also required throughout, says general manager Graham Fairweather."We worked with the design team to develop specialised techniques for the lifting and placing of these heavy, individually integrated precast concrete units, which had to be placed from the bottom row, upwards."
