This new kitchen was designed to complement a classical Cape Cod home. Kitchen and bathroom designer Nancy Del Santo says the Chan family also wanted the kitchen to incorporate a cozy, garden-style breakfast area.

"We were able to move a washer and dryer to a hall closet, which freed up space in the kitchen," she says. "We could then maximize every inch."

All the cabinetry was custom built to exacting dimensions, with inset doors and drawers, and custom feet. Upper cabinets are 14in deep to accommodate dinner plates, as well as glasses and bowls. There is also a Rev-A-Shelf blind corner unit, special organizers for pots and pans, a recycling center and wood drawer divides. A full-height pantry with roll-out shelves provides grocery storage.

The kitchen was opened up with new windows, including a bay, and a new French door.
