We seek out advice from kitchen designers because of their skill in layout, their product knowledge, and their aesthetically trained eye. But traditional kitchens require something a little extra an ability to tailor historic designs to contemporary lifestyles.

At the Chicago Kitchen Design Group, partners Lynn Larsen, CKD, CBD and Joe LaMantia, CKD are creative professionals with more than 40 years of experience in the kitchen design industry.

Together with their team of designers and project managers, they ensure every client receives personalized attention and individual designs.

"The Chicago Kitchen Design Group consults directly with homeowners, designers, architects and builders to create kitchens that preserve the integrity of homes throughout the world," says Larsen.

A certified kitchen and bath designer, Larsen has a master's degree in architecture. She designed the French country kitchen featured here.

Architectural features such as cabinetry that has curved edges and detailed panelling, are reminiscent of traditional French country design. Cabinet doors that are slightly worn on the edges before being painted, are subtle touches that suggest aging, says Larsen.

"In this kitchen design architectural details such as beaded edges and elaborate mouldings are complemented by quality materials such as honed limestone."

Visual appearance, however, is just one aspect of the design process, Larsen says functionality is also an important consideration. For example the dishwasher is raised in height for greater accessibility, and up-to-date appliances such as an in counter steamer next to the farmhouse sink.
