Aquamarine
The design of this beach-house kitchen features a blend of natural and contemporary materials, with metallic highlights
A beach house is a place to relax, socialize and enjoy the sea air and the kitchen is often the center of the experience. To reflect this and foster a fun atmosphere, this kitchen, designed by Joanne Godding of Kitchens by Design, is both light-filled and bright.
High-gloss colored glass in a vibrant aqua coats the walls and backsplash, and reflects the colors in the ocean views opposite. This color is juxtaposed with grainy travertine floors and wood elements in the cabinetry, says Godding.

"Light bounces around the kitchen because of all the glass. Spotlights in the ceiling, under the ventilation hood and in the cabinets add to this effect. The cabinet lights provide a mood setting when left on at night."
To make social occasions casual and easy, the owners requested a scullery where the mess of food preparation could be hidden from view. The doors to the scullery are the same colored glass as the walls, giving a seamless quality to the space. Stainless steel appliances, cabinet handles and toekicks lend a metallic sheen.
The open-plan space allows a large dining table and a sitting area to be located nearby, ensuring that everybody can be included.
