Laid-back resort holidays are idyllic for a number of reasons, including the breezy indoor-outdoor living and the sense of luxury that is all encompassing.

For an increasing number of people, it's a lifestyle they don't want to leave behind when they return home hence the demand for resort-style homes that maximise Australia's temperate climate.

Paul Clout Design specialises in the design of houses that re-create the spirit of a tropical resort. The company, which operates out of Noosa, has forged a niche market with its high-end residences and unit developments.

Director Paul Clout says the company's signature lifestyle designs reference resort-style architecture in tropical Queensland, Asia and the South Pacific.

"Invariably, our designs provide a seamless connection between the indoors and outdoors. And we also like to incorporate polished timbers, stonework and internal and external water features," he says. "The outdoor living areas are just as important as the interior spaces."

The company has been in business for more than 20 years and has won numerous industry awards, including the Housing Industry Association (HIA) Qld Home of the Year and Australian Home of the Year (twice).
