Studio Del Castillo – Melbourne
Strong family bonds and the importance of entertaining were catalysts for many of the design decisions taken to deliver this striking new kitchen.
With three teenage children in the family, the kitchen space would be used at various times of the day and night and needed to suit the ever-changing schedules of young adolescents.
Judges' comments:
This kitchen oozes sophistication and sits seamlessly in this interior. The form of the island bench is spectacular while being functional.
Dark stained timber, natural marble and brass highlights is a timeless mix, and this designer has achieved a perfect balance of form and function.

Landry Design – Beverly Hills
Dramatic stone island, countertops and backsplash provide a great contract to the otherwise simple lines and cabinet materials in this open kitchen design.
Sliding door panels pocket into the wall creating a direct connection to the outdoor terrace and city views beyond.
The open feeling and functional layout of appliances and work space make this a dream kitchen for avid home chefs and family gatherings.
Judges' comments:
An airy, open design that is clean and modern, and perfect for indoor-outdoor living.
The bold choice of stone creates a dramatic complement to the natural wood and more neutral materials, while the slatted design of the bar area looks great and creates a cosy space for gathering.

Concepts by Gavin Hepper – Wollongong, NSW
This new kitchen replaces an impractical, 90s style kitchen with a large bulkhead and rangehood over the kitchen island, obstructing the view.
The centrepiece of this renovation is the kitchen island, providing form, texture and grandeur in its visual impact and a central lift-up to provide a designated breakfast zone for the kids.
Judges' comments:
Streamlined design that creatively combines curved and linear forms. Color and material choice is serene, echoing the coastline setting and blending seamlessly with the outdoor terrace.
Innovative design and engineering, with great use of texture and lighting to create depth and dimension.

Detail by Davinia Sutton – Christchurch
This functional yet uncluttered kitchen stays true to both the boldness of the home's modern architecture and the serenity of the seaside setting.
Judges' comments:
While this kitchen is quite simple in nature, something has to be said about designing to fit seamlessly into the interior. The designer has achieved this in spades.
This kitchen is restrained and not over designed, and has grounded this interior perfectly.

Harrison Design – Atlanta
The homeowners wanted semi-professional cook’s kitchen - and the final result is a fully equipped chef’s kitchen that creatively conceals everything a serious home chef could need through the use of daring design elements.
The large oak island provides an organic centrepiece, also packed with features such as refrigerator draws, a butcher block with easy access for compost, as well as a pop-up electrical outlet.
Judges' comments:
A crafted and artful space with a sense of warmth. The darker finishes look beautiful with all the natural light.
Great storage solutions – in particular, the floor-to-ceiling sycamore wall.

Hive Architecture – Buderim, Queensland
For this design, the owners wanted an organic feel that wasn’t too perfect – the result is a character kitchen that's wild, rambling and natural.
The owner wanted the kitchen to be functional but also very beautiful, and when shut down for the day, to become like a work of art.
The curved batten wall is another a key feature of this area as it creates a strong sense of calm in the space with the warm green colour.
Judges' comments:
This kitchen is the perfect balance between furniture and a conventional kitchen. Clever use of tones, material and cladding details gives it the extra, unique visual impact the clients were asking for.
A beautifully hand-crafted piece of joinery with a slight Mid-Century touch.

Leuschke Kahn Architects – Auckland
This new kitchen acknowledges its historic cottage setting with a timber backing wall while a wall of crisp white side cabinetry echoes the floating island.
The newly formed open-plan living/kitchen/dining area opens up to the northern courtyard garden via a full-height wall of glass doors.

Matisse – Auckland
This design had to look and feel luxurious – right from the visual impact, layout and surfaces to the fine detailing and craftsmanship of the installation.
Floor to ceiling cabinetry also makes the kitchen feel more vertical and draws the eye upward and inward to the island and focal point of the space.

This sustainably minded kitchen offers the best of everything a professional chef needs – including a show-stopping operable benchtop that adjusts to specific needs.

Walls Bros Designer Kitchens & Klemm Homes – Adelaide
This kitchen's oval marble island provides an element of softness and contrast the hard concrete floors, while still allowing the island to be its own furniture showpiece in the room.
A curved backdrop with Venetian plast walls and no overhead cupboards again adds warmth and a European feel to the space.

Younique Designs – San Antonio
Pushing the boundaries of traditional design, this kitchen utilises shapes, lines and color define this space and draw the viewers eye around the room to the various details.
Traditional materials such as wood cabinets, marble countertops and backsplash and brass fixtures are utilised in non-traditional ways to redefine the traditional kitchen.
