The latest design elements from Italy, Austria and Denmark are reflected in local high-end projects by DK Design Kitchens
The planet is rapidly becoming a global village in terms of design inspiration. To achieve a look glimpsed in an Italian publication, or on a German website, it makes sense to approach a local company that has a strong international perspective.
DK Design Kitchens sources the latest design elements from around the world to create stand-out kitchens here in Australia, says design team leader Jakob Gamborg.
"We design, create and install kitchens that are essentially lifestyle showpieces," he says. "This means combining the best the world has to offer, in terms of aesthetics and function, with our local best, in regard to solid manufacturing practices."
Inspiration for many of DK Design's projects comes from European trends. Surfaces fashionable today in Milan, for example, may be found in a DK Design project in downtown Sydney tomorrow.
In terms of functionality, the company uses Austrian and German technology for accessories and working parts such as smooth-gliding Blum runners and hinges.
DK Design employs local craftspeople to build cupboards and doors to exacting standards, using precision Italian machine tools. Components are screwed together using classic carpentry techniques.
