Keeping a project of this nature to schedule and budget is a challenge requiring the skills of a professional project management company. In this instance, with a building, a design concept, a budget and a very tight timetable, Les Mills hired The Building Intelligence Group (formerly Promanco Kenman), to manage the design, construction and delivery process to ensure the gym would be ready for opening day.

Project manager Melanie Briasco says the company thrived on the challenges the project provided and enjoyed working with a client who is passionate about what they do.

"Our client had a clear vision. They wanted this gym to be the best they had ever developed. They wanted every visit to be a constantly changing theatrical experience to inspire and energise their members," she says.

The Building Intelligence Group oversaw every aspect of the project from the design and construction to the integration of specialist graphics and lighting.

To achieve the tight time frame, The Building Intelligence Group worked with the designers, contractor and client to find innovative solutions to any problems that arose.

"We worked with everyone to find ways to meet the schedule without compromising the budget. We were convinced that the programme was achievable," says Melanie Briasco.

With the co-operation of all concerned the company agreed a staged handover, which integrated the final stages of construction with the equipment installation.

"Everyone involved was really enthusiastic about this project," she says. "Everyone made a huge effort and commitment to the project through all stages and the end result, we believe, is spectacular and delivers on Les Mills' vision for the gym."
