First opened in 1959, Saint Kentigern School has grown from modest beginnings in Roselle House into a thriving, highly respected academic institution. In keeping with its contemporary outlook, the school has now realised a long-held vision for an up-to-the-minute sports centre.

The opening of the Jubilee Sports Centre marks the successful completion of four years of design, planning, obtaining consents and construction, says general manager of the Saint Kentigern Trust Board, Eric Shiels.

"The facility incorporates a spacious gymnasium with bleacher seating for over 200 people, a mezzanine viewing gallery, additional classrooms, a function venue for social events, and changing facilities," says Shiels. "In addition, the former lower field, once unusable for most of the school year, has been transformed into an artificial turf, and a large carpark."

In overview, the finished building greatly enhances the school's facilities on several levels, with the added benefit of improved traffic circulation and student safety as a result of the new car park.

"The Jubilee Sports Centre is a showcase for Saint Kentigern in terms of our progressive facilities and ability to follow through on a dream."
