With a passion designer sees red
Red and pewter kitchen features Resene
The serious approach isn't always the best solution for a kitchen. Sometimes a kitchen design is all the better when it projects a little lighthearted fun.
The owners of this 1960s house, which has been extensively renovated, wanted a kitchen that would express their passion for life and colour. Keen to have a little fun with the design, the couple told designer Toni Roberts they wanted to draw on their particular passion for purple, raspberry and lime.
Inspired also by a slab of White Galaxy granite, which has splashes of raspberry highlights and pewter veining, Roberts refined the colour palette. Resene Sensual Red, a warm pink red, was complemented by a pewter metallic paint. A gloss finish to both colours enhances the reflective look of the kitchen.
The three prominent sides of the kitchen display the Resene Sensual Red sandwiched by violet grey. Walls are painted with Resene Half Perfect Taupe, while ceilings and window trims are Resene Eighth Thorndon Cream. A wall by the island, painted in Resene Magnetic Magic, provides a handy message board that can also be used to display children's artwork and photos.
