With a local flavour Novotel Auckland carpets supplied by Feltex Carpets

New Zealand's unique landscape is reflected throughout the Novotel Auckland Airport hotel, with the carpet playing a major role in establishing the aesthetic.

Feltex Carpets custom manufactured the carpets from the Feltex Woven range for both the public areas and guest suites. Marketing manager Rochelle Flint says the company worked closely with Warren and Mahoney to achieve the desired look for the public areas, and with interior designer David Forbes for the guest suites.

"The base colours of the carpet in the guest suites are in green and brown tones that reflect New Zealand's natural environment," she says. "In the main areas, charcoals and greys were used to form a stippled gradient that is reminiscent of the ironsand on our beaches. The darker tones of the carpet are on the perimeter, with the lighter colour featuring towards the centre. For the corridors and restaurants, the same colours are used in alternating light and dark patterns.

Flint says Feltex Woven carpet is a wool-blend carpet that is well suited to commercial installations, because it is very hard wearing, easy to maintain and comfortable underfoot.

"Feltex Woven also offers clients a way to design a unique flooring solution for their project," she says. "While the natural environment provided the inspiration for the Novotel Auckland Airport hotel, on other projects it might be the company logo or crest, or a particular colour option that is required."
