With a light touch Cranston Homes' house with interiors by Yellowfox

Even when a themed interior seems the natural response to a home's architecture, a sense of restraint can still be required.

This house was designed and built by Blair Cranston of Cranston Homes. Designer Peta Davy of Yellowfox was asked to complement the home's retro vibe through the interior design and finishes.

Although the house has a warm, 70s appeal, it was important not to overtheme the home, and to balance the scheme with contemporary ideas as well, says Davy.

"With a colour palette of charcoal, Resene Bokara Grey, and white, Resene Barely There, together with splashes of a grass green, Resene Moxie, we set a more modern tone," says Davy. "We then added textural appeal with Vision wallpaper accents."

The floors were an integral part of the home's aesthetic. Living spaces have a mix of Norman Ellison carpet and timber floors, by DFD Wood Flooring, laid by Flooring Studio. Tiles by Tile Warehouse help define the kitchen and make for easy upkeep in this hardworking space and in the bathrooms as well.

"The kitchen is on view from most parts of the open living areas and we gave it a sense of space and design by setting the rear cabinetry and refrigerator into the wall. The kitchen features a variety of finishes, including Bestwood Melamine Arctic White, Charred Oak, and Bestwood veneer," says Davy.

"The sculptural benchtop includes honed Angola from Architectural Stone and we specified recessed handles from Hettich Pro Decor to hint at the 70s era."

Vertically laid mosaic tiles from Tile Warehouse strike a similarly retro note and wall-to-wall mirrors lengthen the room visually and add light.
