Just as no two families are the same, so too do kitchen requirements differ, which is why designers need to be adept at finding innovative design solutions.

One of the key ways members of the Chicago Midwest Chapter of the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) keep one step ahead is through the annual Design Visions competition.

Chapter president Linc Yates CKD says projects, such as the award-winning entries shown on these pages, are judged on a raft of criteria, including visual appeal, structural feasibility, ventilation, safety and ergonomics.

"With designers putting forward their best work, Design Visions is always a showcase of good kitchen design," Yates says. "These projects are inspirational for designers and clients alike."

NKBA designers also keep up with design trends and new products and appliances by attending regular seminars and product launches.

"It is often many years since clients last undertook a kitchen or bathroom remodeling project, so it can be difficult for them to keep up with the latest kitchen technology," says Yates. "Working with an NKBA designer is the best way to ensure nothing will be overlooked, in terms of both functionality and aesthetics."
