A hallmark of effective architecture is allowing functionality and aesthetics to work together. This can be seen in several aspects of The Hub apartment complex from the shape of the building itself to much of the building's exterior detailing.

Lowline supplied and installed several external elements on the apartment complex that contributed to both its appearance and solar efficiency.

As a company, Lowline is an innovator in aluminium architectural products constantly developing new systems and extrusions for a variety of architectural products, says Managing Director Chris Wright.

"These include sun shades, feature fins, privacy and operating screens, as well as ventilation and roof vents," he says. "We supplied and installed the horizontal sun shades and vertical fins for this project."

While both the fins and sunshades help limit solar gain, their shape was governed to some extent by the individualistic design. Lowline's reputation for innovation and the company's experienced team of installers enabled a smooth adjustment of standard elements to work with the design.

"This project involved creating custom curved top and base plates of standard vertical fins to match the slab-edge radius of the building," says Wright. "At the same time, we had to ensure a perfect plumb line over all levels of the structure."

The horizontal aluminium sunshades were also customised by Lowline with on-site mitre cuts made to ensure a precision fit in between The Hub's various angled walls.

"The experience of our team was a vital part of Lowline's contribution, in terms of both customisation and a constant build-pace," says Wright. "We also installed various ventilation louvres, custom-built entry gates and feature screens on this project."
