The airport's pier extension offers new facilities and contemporary elements from the ground up starting with the hard-wearing flooring.

Crown Flooring supplied and installed over 3000m² of Feltex custom Axminster carpet and 1200m² of hard-wearing Nora rubber flooring into the upper level, says manager Adrian de Roode.

"The central walkway was to receive extensive use, and had to be future-proofed for years to come," he says. "For this reason the architects chose Norament rubber flooring for this high-use area.

"The architects, Stephenson and Turner, wanted a durable, high-gloss surface, but in a material that avoided excessive fumes during the process of installation. With much of the flooring being laid while the airport was open, this was imperative."

De Roode explains that other reasons for choosing Norament include its slip resistance and excellent acoustical properties.

"This avoids an echoing effect that would be likely in such a large, high traffic space," he says.
