An easy circulation of passengers was integral to the airport's upgrade, and elevators and escalators played a pivotal role. Both elements were supplied and installed by Schindler Lifts.

Marketing manager Mark Hughes explains the choices made:

"Schindler machine room-free elevators were specified for the project, with glass doors and cars. This combined a modern appearance with the security requirements the airport demanded. The elevators' robust construction was another vital element, given the high traffic flow environment."

Schindler's experienced design team worked closely with the architects to customise the lifts with individual applications and finishes.

The company's model 9300 escalators were specified for their modern design, safety and reliability.

"These escalators offer high-end mechanical components, designed for all day, every day operation. Safety features include a two-channel safety circuit, and double controller independent monitoring," says Hughes. "The elevators and escalators are fitted with energy-saving features, which not only cut costs, but also benefit the environment."
