This round up of simple tips and interior ideas will show you how to give your living room a makeover on a budget. 1. Start with textilesTextiles are a quick and easy way to decorate a room. They come in different colours, patterns, and textures – best of all, they’re not that expensive. So you can go as trendy as you want in this aspect and not feel guilty. Look around for pillowcases and curtains with patterns and styles that are currently in fashion. If you want something bigger, go for a statement rug. It’s a great piece for putting a room together and will go a long way in making your space look beautiful. Photography by: Josh Hemsley. 2. Go minimalMinimalism is currently in and it’s a trend that shows no signs of going away any time. Begin by decluttering your space – only choosing items that you need or you really love. Maybe consider replacing your old couch with a new sectional one so your room becomes more spacious and functional. You can find better sectional sofa brands online for a good price, which will last you for years. The great thing about minimalism is that you don’t need to do a lot of adding, it’s more about reducing your decor to only the essentials. Photography by: Kirill. 3. Play with your wall coloursEvery few years, there’s a colour that just seems to dominate the mainstream. In the last few, it was millennial pink and neon green. Lately, bold red and classic blue have been making big waves with people incorporating the colour in their clothes and homes. If you’d like to get in on the trend, consider repainting your walls in these colours. You don’t have to settle for just one colour. Create a colour palette and find one that you think will really suit your room. You can take inspiration from your current decor to find the right set of colours that will make everything feel more cohesive. It can be a lot of work to repaint your walls so consider trying out the colours you’ve chosen on a bare patch of wall. Give it a few days, if not weeks, to see how you feel about it before going all in with the repainting project. Photography by: Beazy. 4. Add trendy accessoriesAccessories are another affordable way to get into the current interior design trends. These are accents that add a layer of personality to your living room. You can add a wicker basket as storage for your magazines or a little succulent plant for that green touch to your space. These are all trendy decor pieces you can experiment with that don’t require a huge investment. Photography by: Kaylee Garrett. 5. Make it personalPersonal items will never go out of style. No matter what decade it is, you will always treasure these items so go ahead and find a spot for them in your living room. Frame your best photos, display your favourite books, put out travel memorabilia you’ve collected over the years. Adding these little personal touches will make the space feel more special and truly lived in. Photography by: Minh Pham. 6. Keep it cleanLastly, make sure that your living room is always clean and tidy. There’s no point trying to make a living room trendy if there is clutter and dirt taking all the attention. Have quick storage solutions nearby such as a drawer, an ottoman seat, or under the coffee table. This way, you can easily put things away when you need to do a quick tidying up.
