We may be a small country, but we’re not short of big players on the world stage.

New Zealand architectural firm Warren and Mahoney received an award at the World Architecture Festival (WAF) in the Education - Future Project Category for the Lincoln University AgResearch Joint Facility (Christchurch) in association with Woods Bagot, Boffa Miskell and LabWorks.

Warren and Mahoney managing director John Coop says the firm’s recognition in this year’s awards demonstrates its commitment to reflecting an understanding of identity, place and community in the design process.

“The project we’ve been awarded for is emblematic of Warren and Mahoney’s approach to our work with clients and their stakeholders. Our process is grounded in driving conversation before design, sharing our ideas with authentic generosity and ultimately creating spaces that connect people. We’re honoured to see this approach receiving international recognition among this year’s competitive and highly qualified field.”

The design was praised for how it was able to connect potential partners from different organisations in shared research spaces, and for its use of traditional Māori wayfinding to guide pathways between the facility and surrounding campus. Its design was informed by consultation with local iwi and inspired by the lush and fertile agricultural land of New Zealand’s surrounding countryside.
