Warming effect

T ogether with building materials, appliances help to define a kitchen within the overall context of a home.

The materials used in this kitchen include honed granite on the benchtops, imported Italian windows and American walnut veneer on the cabinetry. They combine to create a warm and modern profile, which is enhanced by the introduction of Smeg appliances.

Designer Mario Giudice and owner and building designer Anthony Launech decided on a selection of Smeg products because of their collective design appeal.

Among the selected items is a 90cm thermosealed oven. This sits below a similar-sized gas cooktop that incorporates a wok burner and fish kettle hotplate. An integrated dishwasher features Canali-designed control knobs to match those on the oven.

"We were attracted by the design versatility and functionality of these appliances, so we fitted the whole kitchen out with Smeg products," Launech says.

Other Smeg products in this kitchen include a refrigerator, a microwave and an integrated rangehood.
