Fireplaces have come of age. No longer simply a way to warm the household, fireplaces are also transforming the look of home interiors.

Jetmaster distributes several models that reflect the increasing designer emphasis given to modern interiors, and the need for streamlined, contemporary fireplaces that are also highly functional.

The collection includes Heat & Glo balanced-flue gas log fires from the United States. The largest model in this range was specified for St Patrick's Estate, Manly.

Marketing manager Daniel Belnick says Heat & Glo fires draw air from outside for combustion, so no oxygen or warmed air is taken from the room. With its direct-vent technology, this fireplace can be vented straight out the back, and can also be vented in a number of versatile horizontal and vertical configurations.

"Heat & Glo patented and developed the first balanced-flue direct-vent gas fire, and continues to be a leading presence in the States," says Belnick.

These fireplaces features Intellifire electronic ignition, which has battery back-up in event of a power failure.

Jetmaster open fireplaces, which are designed to burn either wood or gas, are another popular option. Both the wood fires and the eight gas fires, which incorporate realistic burning coals, pebbles or logs, are easy to install, with minimal or no brickwork needed. Belnick says a specially designed damper control on wood fires increases the heat and provides a slower burn rate for wood.

"These fires are highly energy efficient, having a convection-radiant heating system that produces five times as much heat as a conventional fireplace," he says.

The Jetmaster showrooms also feature Horizon gas fires from Kemlan. These fires have a gas pebble, log or coal fire. Various sizes are available, including cantilevered, and double-sided see-through units.
