Timber benchtops are the speciality of Kings Fourth Generation Woodworking Company
Replacing an old kitchen in a classically styled home calls for taste and sensitivity. Often, features from the old kitchen need to be kept and, in any case, modern cabinetry and benchtops are likely to look out of place.
Kitchens By MacIndoe felt the original matai flooring in this classic Hawkes Bay home was well worth retaining and repolishing. To ensure the new kitchen matched the existing floor, the designer chose Generation 4 timber tops in matai.
"This is a pleasing design technique where both horizontal surfaces are made from matching timber," says the designer. "These are split by forest-green cabinetry that was selected to complement the natural brown-yellow tones of the matai."
Matai has been used as a flooring material in New Zealand for many years because of its dense, impact-resistant heartwood and its attractive grain.
The Generation 4 finish enhances and preserves the natural colours of the timber, and provides countertops that are both practical and hard wearing.
Generation 4 timber tops are available nationwide from Kings Fourth Generation Woodworking Company.
