Virtual reality
Blum's new showroom gives clients a hands-on experience
For many, picturing a three-dimensional space from looking at a two-dimensional representation is next to impossible one of the reasons why architects have always built scale models of their designs.
Advances in technology have meant that virtual walk-throughs of a given space are now commonplace. But still, nothing quite succeeds like a real-life example.
Which is why the Auckland office of kitchen hardware innovator Blum is also a 310m² showroom for clients and designers to test drive the product, says managing director Michael Hawkins.
"The showroom incorporates a series of scenarios demonstrating the breadth of the Blum product three kitchens, a living room, office, bathroom and wardrobe.
"The test-drive kitchen contains fully loaded units mounted on castors. This allows clients to come in and arrange their kitchen design at a 1:1 scale."
Similarly, the functional lab-kitchen presents the benefits of ergonomics and practicality through live cooking shows.
"Across the showroom, each display is fully fitted with orga-line and implementations so kitchen buyers get a real feel for how each unit can be organised and the storage space available," says Hawkins.
