A sprawling deck or outdoor dining area is a great place to spend the afternoon, or to hold a party – that’s unless the sun’s too hot or it rains. Now, there’s an easy way to make the most of your outdoor area – come rain or come shine.

Established in 1866 and a recognised leading louvre specialist in this country, Johnson and Couzins has now re-branded its pioneering concertina retractable outdoor louvre system as Sky Louvres, says director James Adair.

“There‘s a lot of competition out there and we wanted to make sure our clients knew what to ask for. We are very proud of this louvre system which is the first of its kind for New Zealand and as such offers a major point of difference for homeowners,” says Adair “While some other systems rotate to admit or block the sun or keep out rain, we specifically invented the Sky Louvre to take things a step further. “When the weather is fine, you can rotate the blades remotely but also with a push of a button actually concertina the whole louvre ceiling off to the sides. So, one minute there’s a dependable sun shade or rain cover in place – and next minute the sky is clear overhead.

”Sky Louvres also boast clean-lined architectural good looks, with no visible moving parts except the blades rotating or retracting – making them ideal for both contemporary and traditional homes. Plus their sleek looks and rugged construction make them equally suited to commercial environments, such as eateries and bars.

And Sky Louvres certainly are rugged. Johnson and Couzins has matched the finest quality European motor units with locally engineered extrusions to create a highly durable product that takes everything our variable weather can throw at it. Sky Louvres are custom-manufactured in Johnson and Couzin’s advanced Christ-church or Auckland factories to the precise specifications of architects, designers, or homeowners. Sky Louvre systems can be powdercoated in any colour and are available in two styles, Concertina and Silencio. Johnson and Couzins has a full range of accessories, as well, such as automatic screens and awnings, infrared heating and bluetooth sound units. In addition, the company carries the latest high-tech wind, rain and snow sensors that automatically adjust the louvres to suit the occasion.
