CLAD FOR ALL WEATHERS
SPECIFYING THE right cladding system for a large apartment block such as Volt is one of the key decisions facing architects at the start of a project.
The cladding needs to be not just watertight, but capable of performing across a raft of requirements, from fire ratings to acoustic protection, says Greg Howard, managing director of PBS Distributors.
On this project, Leuschke Group Architects worked with PBS Distributors to specify the appropriate product for the exterior cladding in this case, the VentClad cavity system.
"The architects were confident that the system would perform well, based on test evidence and compliance with the latest watertight criteria," says Howard.
The Volt apartments required a variety of VentClad cladding systems, including fire-rated walls that would offer protection for 30 and 60 minutes, acoustically enhanced walls and rigid air barriers to all the exterior timber framed walls.
"The systems also encompass bracing, external wind loads and seismic movement, as well as weather-tight performance," says Howard.
"The PBS Group is recognised as a leader in the development of cavity cladding systems and exterior envelope solutions. It's a development process that has required many years of rigorous testing."
