Urban village
With apartments, offices, retail services and restaurants, the landmark development at Freshwater Place completes an already thriving neighbourhood
With its rectangular design and modular grids, the commercial office tower at Freshwater Place was well suited to construction utilising pre-fabricated components.
Winward Structures' director Kevin Winward says his company's goal was to deliver a high-quality, cost-effective and readily buildable design solution. Winward worked with other suppliers and contractors to develop an economical, pre-fabricated floor system that enabled fast construction and minimal propping during construction.
Winward undertook the structural design, documentation and construction phase review services, working with a team of architects, services consultants and other building professionals.
Winward worked with Golder Associates to establish effective site retention and footing systems to suit the complex geotechnical conditions and minimise the cost implications of site contamination. Design wind forces for the building were optimised by wind-tunnel testing (by MEL Consultants ) and 3-D dynamic modelling to generate cost benefits in building facade and structure.
