Two sides to every story
Soaking up the sun to the north and presenting a bold face to the south, this house makes the most of its clifftop environment
When there is a spectacular outlook, the design of the house can be complementary to the landscape.
Such is the case for this Red Beach home. Architectural designer Michael Manning kept the concept simple, using materials that reflect the colours seen at the beach, such as rich red cedar weatherboards, precast concrete and schist panels.
Brackebush Construction was contracted to create the house, supplying the materials needed and working alongside the designer and homeowners to ensure their satisfaction. The northern orientation of the house has large areas of glazing, while the southern side has a more urban look, with precast concrete panels that add the benefits of durability and low maintenance.
"Brackebush specialises in creating precast concrete panels in a variety of thicknesses. In today's climate of leaky buildings, concrete is a material that can be relied on," says director Andrew Brackebush.
