When the client's brief asks for a traditional kitchen, there are two ways to approach the inclusion of the modern, high-tech appliances one is to integrate them into the cabinetry; the other is make them stand-out design features. This kitchen by designer Colleen Holder forms part of a spacious new seaside home. The client's brief was for the kitchen to be classic yet balanced and for it to act as the hub for the open-plan living spaces, Holder says."It had to be a versatile space one where the family could gather, or the chef could prep a meal without clutter, or where someone could read a book at the window seat," says Holder."In response, we designed the new kitchen predominantly in black and white, with granite on the island and perimeter benchtops and black feature lighting over the island." Open, breezy and welcoming, this kitchen designed by Colleen Holder and built by McGregor Kitchens contrasts classic elements such as the subway tile, butler sink and plate rack with gleaming stainless steel appliances from Smeg. Elements such as the butler sink, plate rack, subway tile splashback and colonial glass doors help create the traditional accent requested."The pantry is home for baking equipment and a microwave, together with a second sink helping keep the main kitchen looking its best," Holder says. "And the stainless steel appliances were placed close to benchtops for ease of use."The appliances complement the traditional kitchen as well as bringing the functionality needed for the hub of a busy family home. Smeg was the brand of choice, including the Smeg 900 freestanding C9GMXA cooker, a Smeg Powerpack ASCLED in the under-cabinet rangehood and a Smeg SF640S-1 French-door refrigerator. The classic Smeg oven has eight functions, a 126L capacity and offers manual or programmable cooking along with a double-glazed, thermo-reflective door, and twin fan technology. The quiet, powerful Smeg extractor has twin motors with an extraction rate of 1350m³ per hour at maximum and advanced sensor control to allow automatic operation of the motor. At your service everything is immediately to hand in this kitchen designed to meet the needs of a busy family. Veined black granite countertops work well with the white cabinetry and reflective white splashback. Counter surfaces are wide enough to allow the owners children to sprawl out on them with their homework. A gleaming Smeg stainless steel fridge and Smeg freestanding cooker complete the picture of efficiency and style. The French-door fridge dispenses ice and cold water right from the door, while the fridge and freezer are frost-free, keeping food fresher."The kitchen is welcoming and cosy, and meets all the needs of the family," says Holder. For more detailed information on all Smeg appliances, visit: www.smeg.co.nz Story by: Trendsideas 04 May, 2016 Kitchen Trendsideas Home kitchen bathroom commercial design Latest Post Light-filled and harmonious 14 Apr, 2024 Treading lightly 14 Apr, 2024 Homely, inviting – and lived in 14 Apr, 2024 We know the Specialists Similar Stories
