Award-winning housing companies are well aware that a great kitchen will sell a house. They also know that a kitchen is only as good as its appliances, which is why Felton Homes put considerable emphasis on the appliance choice for the kitchen in this rural display home.

Felton Homes, which recently won the 2006 HIA Best Display Home over $400,000 award, specified a full complement of Miele appliances, including several products that are new releases.

The high-end appliances were chosen for their reputation in terms of reliability and performance, and for their looks, which reinforce the sleek, streamlined aesthetics of the kitchen. The square-edged, horizontal lines of the Miele DA 429 rangehood, for example, complement the design of the overhead display cabinets and the island. Other features, such as the touch pad electronic controls and powerful fan motor, also make this rangehood well suited to a family kitchen.

But it is also the cooking appliances that reflect the attention to detail that characterises Miele products, says national projects manager Robert Warner.

"Miele wall ovens are all about ease of use," he says. "The engineers at the factory work closely with our home economists in order to provide the best possible cooking results at the flick of a wrist. The Miele fan forced cooking system, for example, enables you to cook on up to three levels. Rather than just circulating hot air with a fan, Miele uses a mini turbine together with a ring heater element to force hot air evenly throughout the oven interior. This reduces cooking time and energy consumption, and provides perfectly even cooking results."

In this kitchen, the Miele H 4240 B wall oven is matched with the Miele H 4020 BM combi oven. This oven combines conventional oven functions with a powerful microwave of up to 1000W output, and is ideal if you have to cater for a large household.

"Combi ovens allow for faster cooking times," says Warner. "Their additional oven capacity is an added bonus when entertaining."

The kitchen also features the Miele EGW 4060-14 plate warmer, which provides hot air circulation for pre-heating crockery. The warming drawer will take up to 20 dinner plates, or 40 cappuccino cups, and has a freely adjustable temperature range from around 30°C to 70°C.

The KM 391 G gas cooktop specified for this kitchen has two normal burners, a wok burner, fast burner and simmer burner. This ceramic hob unit has a stainless steel frame and removable, enamelled cast iron pan supports.
