Two different spaces two prize-winning design solutions from members of the NKBA Georgia Chapter

While most homeowners focus on aesthetics when choosing a new bathroom, there are other equally important factors to consider, including functionality, safety and durability.
The designers of the award-winning bathrooms shown here won prizes in the NKBA Georgia Chapter's inaugural Calla Awards for all-round excellence. Attention to technical elements and adherence to national planning guidelines were key reasons for their success.
The winner of the Small-Medium Bath award, sponsored by Builder's Surplus, was Jackie Naylor CMKBD, of Jackie Naylor Interiors, Atlanta. The bathroom, designed for the teenage daughter of the house, incorporates a hinged mirror, which opens to reveal a window. Frosted glass at the sides of the mirror allows light into the room, but conceals a view of the roof. Dark wenge cabinetry makes a bold contrast to the white vanity tops.

The winner of the Large Master Suite Bath award, sponsored by Kohler, was Jim Meloy CKD of Kitchen & Bath Concepts, Atlanta. This remodeled bathroom features high-tech shower and bathtub technology the tub provides air-jet therapy and is equipped with a patented self-cleaning system.
The glazed, soft-green color of the cabinets was color-matched to the walls. A more muted tone was chosen for the vanity tops and flooring. The his-and-hers vanity cabinetry includes a make-up section with additional speciality drawers. Narrow wall cabinets provide additional storage and space for a radio.
The bathroom also features fixtures and accessories in a pewter finish, and a clear glass shower enclosure, which enhances the spacious look.
