Top deck
It took a builder to come up with a hidden deck fastening system that sets a new benchmark
No matter how attractive a deck looks when it is just completed, problems can occur. Decks built using nails and screws can creak whenever someone walks on them. And, of course, nails and screws rust and often create unsightly pop-ups and splinters that can be safety hazards.
EB-TY® Hidden Deck-Fastening Systems¢ has changed all that forever. The company, which comprises a group of highly experienced builders, has come up with a new fastening system based on common tongue-and-groove flooring.
The patented, award-winning EB-TY Hidden Deck Fasteners, which are manufactured in the United States, are made from ultraviolet-resistant polypropylene. Their dark color blends with the shadow of the deck joints.
Each EB-TY is an oval device, or biscuit, that simply hooks into slots at the edge of the deck boards where they cross a joist. Each deck board has a groove cut into the side, and the fastener acts like a tongue, simultaneously spacing the boards and holding them down. The process ensures that the boards will be evenly spaced, thus eliminating drainage problems.
The company says the fasteners will not rust, shrink, crack or soften, and come with an expected 100-year lifespan.
