In the dramatic Central Otago landscape, even the most contemporary architecture will take a back seat to the scenery. For this new home, designed by Gary Todd, a transparency allows the owners to maximise both the view and the living spaces.

A series of thin roofs that appear to hover above the landscape allow the house to nestle into the site. So, too, does the colour palette. Working with the owners, Todd chose a tonal, environmental selection of Resene colours to merge the modern architecture with the landscape.

The exterior plaster walls and fascias feature Resene Double Napa, a grey-based neutral shade that reflects the changing light conditions. Interior walls were painted in Resene Sisal, a beige-toned neutral. Ceilings feature the same shade, at a quarter strength, while doors showcase Resene Triple Sisal.

Todd says his company, Gary Todd Design, has used Resene paints for more than 30 years.

"We appreciate the vast colour range and the technical back-up, which allow us to pursue award-winning architecture appropriate to the environment and our clients' tastes."
