Time honoured
A happy medium between the lightness of contemporary homes and the richness of the traditional aesthetic was found by Storm Design
An extensive use of timber, together with rich colours and patternings, helps create a traditional design aesthetic in the interiors of Red Hills.
Nadine Storm from Storm Design combined antiques and classic-styled products to create the interior decor. In the dining room, this includes a burgundy and gold screen-printed wallpaper from a New York-based company.
"Rich velvet drapes in the same colours add formality to the dining room, as does an antique crystal chandelier. Colours throughout the house are chosen to reflect those seen in the leadlight dome in the entry hall," says the designer.
This includes the aquamarine colour used for the floor tiles in one of the bathrooms, and the warm tones used in the master bathroom.
One challenge for the designer was to find materials and products that represented the style of the home, while being practical and functional for everyday living. Storm Design is working alongside the owner in the final stages of the design scheme, which includes progressively filling the home with a collection of antiques and other furnishings.
